Course Overview
This comprehensive course is designed for individuals interested in obtaining professional qualifications in white water rafting on Grade 3 rivers. Training will be conducted at the renowned Penrith White Water Stadium, providing participants with world-class facilities and expert instruction.
Units of Competency (Statement of Attainment)
Upon successful completion, participants will receive certification in:
- SISORAF002 - Guide a raft on grade 3 rivers
- SISORSC004 - Self rescue in white water
- SISORSC005 - Rescue others in white water
- SISORAF005 - Lead rafting activities on grade 3 rivers
Prerequisites & Recommended Experience
No formal prerequisites required - this course welcomes anyone with an interest in outdoor recreation and water sports.
Strongly recommended for success:
- Comfortable in flat water environments
- Ability to swim 50 metres confidently
- Physical capability to lift and carry kayaks
- Strong swimming abilities
Course Structure
- Theory Component: Self-paced online learning (must be completed before practical sessions)
- Practical Training: 5 full days of hands-on instruction at Penrith White Water Stadium
- Format: Mixed theoretical knowledge and practical skill development

Essential Items

Clothing & Safety Equipment
Paddling Clothing:
- Range of lightweight and heavier thermal protection
- Sun-smart options for warmer conditions
- Hat and sunscreen
- Wetsuit (strongly recommended)
- Secure footwear suitable for water activities
Safety Equipment (if owned):
- Personal Flotation Device (PFD) - must be whitewater-certified
- Helmet - must be whitewater-certified
- Personal kayak (if available)
All necessary PPE will be provided if you don't have your own whitewater-certified equipment
Note: Lunch breaks may include opportunity to purchase food off-site
