Basic Servicing

This 1 day course commences at 8.30am and will focus on developing your skills in maintaining smooth operation of your bicycle. We will be demonstrating and guiding you step by step through the following:

  • Gear adjustments
  • Brake adjustments
  • Minor headset adjustments
  • Minor wheel truing
  • Checking chain/cassette wear
  • Cleaning and lubrication
  • Learning how to use a chain breaker
  • Replacing chain (demonstration only)

This class is aimed at the enthusiast that has some knowledge in bicycle mechanics but wants to expand that knowledge and work on their own bicycle with confidence.

We encourage you to bring along your own bicycle so you can learn the ins and outs of the specific components you have.  

You will receive a statement of completion following the course.

Advanced Service and Repair

This 4 day course will be run over 4 days from 8:30 - 4:00. It will focus on fine tuning your skills so you can completely overhaul your bicycle. We will be demonstrating and guiding you step by step through the following:

  • hub overhaul
  • Headset overhaul
  • Wheel truing
  • Replacing spoke (on a supplied wheel)
  • Removal of complete drive train
  • Bottom bracket overhaul
  • Checking chain/cassette wear
  • Replacing chain (on a supplied bicycle)
  • Brake adjustments
  • Gear adjustment
  • Straightening of derailleur hanger
  • Replacing brake/gear cable (on a supplied bicycle)
  • Checking brake pad wear
  • Checking cable wear

This class is aimed at the full enthusiast, someone regularly racing or someone that wants to get a job in the bicycle industry. You will know your bicycle inside out by the time you have finished this course and be able to confidently fix any problems your bicycle throws at you.

With the knowledge you learn in this course you will be able to find the minor issues and address them before they cause major damage to your bicycle which can become costly or simply leave you stranded on the side of the road.

You will receive a statement of completion following the course.

This 4 day course will be run over 4 days and will focus on fine tuning your skills so you can completely overhaul your bicycle - note this is non accredited training

Wheel building

This one day class commences at 8.30am and will focus on building a bicycle wheel.

You will learn how to lace, establish starting tension, true radially, laterally and correct for dish and then take the wheel through to final tension.

All parts will be provided for you to use in class.

Note:
If you are completing this as part of the Certificate III in Bicycle Workshop Operations it will contribute toward the unit AURBTJ003 - Design and build bicycle wheels and this is included as part of your course fees.

Suspension Overhaul

This 2 day intensive course will cover the overhaul procedures for some of Fox/Rock Shox forks and shocks.

The course will be setup so you will be using our in house forks/shocks and not your own due to the element of surprise and running into issues we can not foresee.

We will be covering the following:

  • Fox fork overhaul
  • Rock Shox fork overhaul
  • Fox DPS shock overhaul
  • Rock Shox Monarch shock overhaul

This course is aimed at the avid MTBer or bicycle shop mechanic wanting to further their knowledge and get a better understanding of the workings inside the suspension systems.

Certificate III - Bicycle Workshop Operations (AUR30220)

The AUR30220 Certificate III in Bicycle Workshop Operations is intended to prepare new employees or develop existing workers who are performing bicycle service and repair tasks in the bicycle industry.

YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE COMPLETED THE CERTIFICATE II IN BICYCLE MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY TO ENROL INTO THIS COURSE

Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include:

  • Bicycle assembler
  • Bicycle Mechanic
  • Bicycle sales assistant

Course Structure:
To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 28 units of competency, consisting of:

  • 16 core units plus
  • 12 elective units, (up to 5 elective units may be chosen from a Certificate II qualification or above in this Training Package, another endorsed Training Package or accredited course, provided that the units chosen contribute to the vocational outcome of this qualification and do not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification.)

Fees:
Smart and Skilled Student Fees - This training is subsidised by the NSW Government. The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 02 47222471 for further information and advice.

The maximum fee for this course is $2700. If you have completed the Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology it will be $1200. If you are on Centrelink benefits the fee will be $240.

Refunds:
Fee paying students are eligible for refunds in certain cases. For more details, please refer to this guide.

Embedded qualifications:
The Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology (AUR20316) is embedded in this qualification pathway.
